Quiz
Lab in the Classroom
|
Teachers have found many creative
ways of using Quiz Lab in their classrooms. Here are a few, and we know
that there are many more out there!
Assessment |
 |
- Prepare a set of quizzes
to measure monthly student progress in a specific skill or subject.
Set up a Quiz Lab "class" to track and display only these
targeted assessments. Throughout the year the teacher, the student,
and the parent can easily monitor progress to address areas of difficulty.
- Develop quizzes to go with
lessons or units to determine which students need extra review.
- When you build a quiz, note
the state standard you are assessing in the "instructions"
text box at the top of each quiz.
|
| Learning and Practice |
 |
- Help students study weekly
vocabulary lists by preparing practice Quiz Lab quizzes so that the
correct answer is shown after each question is answered by a student.
At the end of the week, use Quiz Lab to test mastery of the word list.
Scores are immediately available without a weekly weekend grading
activity for teachers.
- Assign Funbrain math and
language arts practice games to monitor student progress while they
work independently.
- Set up end-of-book quizzes
for students to complete when they finish independent reading assignments.
|
| Enrichment and Remediation |
 |
- Address the challenge of
teaching multiple levels of learners in a classroom by using Quiz
Lab to support the unique needs of those who are above or below grade
level.
- Since students can log in
from any Internet-connected computer, those who need extra practice
can work outside the classroom in the library or from home.
- Assign independent projects
as enrichment, then track project completion and understanding using
online quizzes.
|
| Classroom Management |
 |
- When there is a substitute
teacher you can let students know that you will assign a quiz to test
that they paid attention.
- If groups of students in
a classroom are given different levels or types of work, then set
up a "class" in the teacher's Quiz Lab account for each
group. If you assign different quizzes to each group, students will
see the quiz that matches their level or work when they log in to
their individual accounts.
- Re-use and update quizzes
easily year after year by saving them in Quiz Lab.
|
| Motivation |
 |
- Use seasonal quizzes (Halloween,
Thanksgiving, Winter, Valentine's Day) as fun fillers during classroom
breaks.
- Encourage parents to periodically
log in to review student scores, so they can support your efforts
by providing praise or assisting their kids.
